About
Aloha. Mabuhay. My name is RJ Kaleohano (Kah-Lay-Oh) Nadal, and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker, educator, facilitator, and community practitioner with more than 13 years of experience in coaching, skills development, and community-based work.
I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and my roots extend to Nueva Ecija, Marikina, and La Union in the Philippines; Ahualoa and Kainaliu on Hawaiʻi Island; Fujian, China; and Peru. My work is grounded in the belief that every person carries wisdom, stories, and strengths that deserve to be recognized and preserved.
As an Advanced Practice Social Work Generalist, I work mainly in and around school settings. Outside of that, I offer Salaysay Sessions. These guided storytelling sessions help elders and families preserve memories, life experiences, and personal reflections through professionally recorded conversations conducted in the comfort of one's home. Families receive an edited recording and transcript that can be shared and passed down for generations. Salaysay Workshops are especially meaningful for elders, individuals facing serious illness, and those experiencing early- or mid-stage memory loss who wish to preserve their voice and life story for loved ones. Salaysay Sessions are usually 4 in-person visits, and available within New York City only.
Please note that Salaysay Workshops are not psychotherapy or mental health treatment. When appropriate, referrals can be made to qualified mental health professionals and other community resources.
