Jana Lynne Caldetera Umipig, mother of Kalilaya Amorosa Umipig-Candelario, life partner of Enmanuel Candelario and daughter of Rosemarie Caldetera Umipig (Pagudpud, Ilokos Norte) and Godofredo Peralta Umipig (Santa Maria, Ilokos Sur) was born and raised in Honolulu on the Kingdom of Hawaii and also raised on Yokuts Territory (Stockton, CA). Her current and closest relation to land is the Lenape Territory (Bronx, NY). She is a cultural organizer, a knowledge bearer and Seer as named by her elders and does so through her multidisciplinary artistic expression/creation work, role as an educator, ritualists, Creator and sharer of knowledge and as an intuitive and bodywork and Earthbased Spirit healer in uplifting the healer within all who come to exchange with her.

As a student of healing for service to community liberatio She has been doing direct service intergenerational organizing work all over the US and Internationally in detention centers, rehabilitation centers, community centers, and the homes of those in need, for over 15 years, and has worked with primarily Youth and Diasporic communities. She spent 7 years serving through leadership at El Puente shaping programs for Creative Justice, is a founding member and Coach of the Global Justice Institute providing guidance for community organizers and community based organizations on mentors and rituals of institutional healing and visioning for self determination and liberation and Healing with young people in Williamsburg Brooklyn and is a And was the founding Teacher at East Brooklyn High School, building Theatre through a lens of Social Justice and Healing that she has been shaping for going on years with the students and families she serves in East Brooklyn and Brownsville, NY. She currently is one of two Community Catalyst Coaches with OF/BY/FOR ALL also supporting cultural institutions to work more equitably in their service to communities they are embedded in. JL is also a Death Doula, supporting families in creating rituals to honoring on going relationships with those in their lives who have transitioned Spirit Side. She centers much of this work as in all other work on supporting children and youth’s relationships to loss and death as well as supporting families who have their lost children. She also works to support Grief and Death tending rituals throughout our lives and lends rituals learned from her Ilokano heritage and also that have been gathered through teachers on her spiritual path. She also holds space for Mothers of the Diaspora tending to the decolonizing of Parenthood, from Pregnancy and Birth to Post Partum life transformations of becoming. She has also focused much of her Grief work in Ritual building in co-creation with Healer Jen Maramba. She works for the Center for Babaylan Studies as a core member, host of podcast Kultivating Kapwa and founder of CfBS Decolonization School and Co-founder and Artistic Director/Creator of Raised Pinay through Roots of Health where she centralizes her organizing around Decolonization and Liberation Education. Some of JL's most know creative works include JL is the US/Internationally travelled Journey of a Brown Girl, 4 Generations of "Raised Pinay" and the Diasporic Pilipinx education and divination tool of Kapwa Tarot. JL has trained in Pekiti Tirsia Kali since 2015 through Pekiti Tirsia Elite NY/NJ under the tutolage of Matasna Guros Francis Estrada, Agalon Njoli Brown and Mandala Arvee Garde. JL is a practitioner of Hilot through her elders from her Maternal lineage and through tutelage from Apu Adman Aghama of Hilot Academy of Binabaylan. She has been an Inner Dance facilitator since 2016 and has been instructed under Serena Olsen and Pi Villaraza. JL is also certified Level 2 Reiki Practitioner through Minka Brooklyn from the teachings of Reiki Masters Aki Baker and Manu River Del Prete. And is a CorePower Yoga C2 Vinyasa certified instructor specified work in Prenatal Yoga and holds a certification in Embodied Social Justice through The Embody Lab instructed by Dr. Sará King & Dr. Rae Johnson in May 2021 and will be completing her Somatic Attachment Therapy Practitioner Certificate in April 2022. She answer to elders who have continued to guide me throughout my life including, Ifugao Mumbaki Mamerto Tindongan, Oglalala Matriarch Davidica Little Spotted Horse, Dr. Leny Strobel, founder of the Center for Babaylan Studies, Frances Lucerna co-founder of El Puente and Nena Caldetera my maternal grandmother who was a migrant worker and mother to 5 children she brought to the US through her labor. JL received colonial learning institution degrees at The Claire Trevor School of the Arts at UC Irvine in Theatre and Ethnic Studies, and Steinhardt at New York University in Educational Theatre for Social Justice and Communities. JL also is a physical theatre, puppetry and mask work practitioner and studied Commedia dell Arte at the Accamdia Dell'arte in Arrezo Italy. Her focus has been rooted in Physical Theatre, Embodied/Somatic Theatre Therapy and Transformative Community Storytelling with influences of applied theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed Techniques.
